Prof. Hua ZHONG, Wuhan University, China

Hua Zhong, Ph.D., is a professor in Department of Water Resources Engineeing, Wuhan University. His research is focused on integrating physical, chemical, and biological principles, and employing innovative experimental methods from the molecular to the field scale, to develop mechanistic-based understanding of contaminant transport and transformation processes in water and soil systems. He is also interested in the development and application of innovative methods and technologies for characterization and remediation of contaminated water. He is the PI of many research projects, such as three projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China and two projects of Major Science and Technology Program for Water Pollution Control and Treatment from Ministry of Science and Technology of China. He has published more than 80 research articles and given more than 30 presentations.

 

Plenary Speaker I

Prof. Chikashi Sato, Idaho State University, U.S.

Dr. Chikashi Sato is a Professor of Environmental Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Idaho State University (ISU).  He is the Director of the Ph.D. Program in Engineering and Applied Science, and also the Director of the MS program in Environmental Science and Management in the College of Science and Engineering at ISU.  Dr. Sato has a broad background in environmental research and practice with emphasis on physical, chemical, and biological treatment of water and wastewater, surface/subsurface water quality, fate and transport modeling, and renewable energy development.  Dr. Sato was a recipient of a JSPS fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (2002-2003).  In 2012, he was a Fulbright Scholar for teaching and conducting research at Tribhuvan University-Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara in Nepal. He was also a visiting professor in the Graduate School of Engineering, Research Center for Environmental Quality Management at Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan (2014). In 2017, Dr. Sato was awarded the Chinese Academy of Science President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) fellowship under the auspices of the Institute of Urban Environment, Xiamen, China. Currently, Dr. Sato is serving as a handling editor of the journals, International Journal of Environment and Waste Management and the International Journal of Environmental Engineering. Recently, he served as a guest editor for the journals, Energies and Applied Sciences.

 

Plenary Speaker II

Prof. Hong Yu, Beijing Forestry University, China

Professor Hong Yu, obtained her doctorate from Tsinghua University in 2008. She was a visiting scholar with the CSC fund to conduct academic research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2015-2016). Her main research directions include microalgae-based water pollution control and biomass resource utilization technology, environmental functional materials, environmental risk substance toxicity assessment. She has presided over several national-level and provincial S&T projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Beijing Science and Technology Star Program. So far, more than 80 academic papers have been published, including 29 papers by SCI, and obtained 10 national invention patents. She is currently a member of the Youth Working Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society, the Youth Working Committee of Algae Branch of the China Algae Industry Association, the Water Treatment and Reuse Committee of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, and some academic journals’ reviewers, etc. She has won the Beijing Science and Technology Nova Star, the China Environmental Science Society Youth S&T Award, the Water Treatment and Reuse Annual National Excellent Conference Paper Award, the leader 5000 The top paper award of China's fine S&T journals, outstanding doctoral thesis of Tsinghua University, etc.

 

Plenary Speaker III

Assoc. Prof. Chong Wen Tong, University of Malaya, Malaysia

Dr. Chong Wen Tong, 張紋通 graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UTM (Mechanical-Aeronautics). He was awarded the Best Student Award for his academic achievement; and obtained his Ph.D. from the same university. Dr. Chong joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UM (# 33, QS-Subjects-Ranking-2016/2017) after spending 10 years in various industries. Before joining UM, he was the Head of Technology and Mechanical Team in Dyson Malaysia, and has been responsible for research, design and development works on vacuum cleaner, hand dryer and bladeless fan. He is a Chartered Engineer registered by the Engineering Council (UK). He served as the Programme Coordinator (Mechanical) for about 5 years (2011-2015) and teaches Renewable Energy at the M.Eng. level in UM. He is the Head, UM Centre for Energy Sciences. He has secured more than RM 6 million research grants, completed 18 research projects (renewable energy & green technology) as principal investigator and successfully supervised >35 post-graduate graduates. He has filed 12 intellectual property rights and won the First Prize of National Intellectual Property Award 2016 (Cross-Axis-Wind-Turbine). He is the Editorial Board Member of two SCI-Q1 journal (top 10%), i.e. the International Journal of Energy Research (IJER) and International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing-Green Technology (IJPEM-GT). He has co-authored >110 ISI technical articles (h-index = 27). He is also the recipient of the University of Malaya Excellence Award 2016, Excellent Lecturer (Science & Technology). He is the Conference Chair of International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Green Technology (SEGT 2018 & 2019).
